 Then the attitude that, “The team always comes first, team comes before the individual”. If the team wins, then the individual acclamations will come after that.
One of the things we try to do is coach everybody. So when the young kids need to step-up, their ready. We graduate a lot of players, but the kids behind them are ready to step right in. That has been the biggest thing that we have done right. (more…)

Coach Grisham shares how the expectation to serve others helps build good character… “We place a lot of responsibility on our kid’s to have good character.  Don Julian Head Football Coach Sheridan High School in Wyoming
Coach Julian shares about developing young men. “We emphasize grades, community service; the kids help with rodeo weekend by setting up for the concert in town, one year in Riverton we spent a Saturday cleaning around town…” “…We go up and spend a night on the mountain with our seniors and sometimes a few juniors; but as many of our seniors as we can get. We don’t even take a football, it is all about team building; activities that involve them working together as a team to accomplish a task.  Coach Bonnie Wallin-Kuntz and the Otis Bulldogs Colorado State Champions!
Coach Wallin-Kuntz talks about how to get players to give 100%, “I have coached for 23 years and what I have learned the most is that if you really want to get a player to give her best, you have to let her know how much you care about her.  A team must work to improve it’s skill by paying close attention to the minutia of details. Whether in the off-season or during the tournament, we try to improve even the smallest of details.
A team must have high expectations. Everyone has a desire to win, but you must also have a desire to prepare to win. Everyone wants to win a state championship. But you have to do all the necessary details in order to put yourself in a position to win that state championship. It’s easy to say, it is hard to do. (more…)

Having fun and enjoying your players is an important part of a championship program. “During the year that we won the state championship I had all the kids over to my house one day for a cookout. We played Corn Hole and had a game of Wiffleball. We just hung out.” Coach Koenig (more…)

 Falling Forward
“I am a believer in getting a lot of kids on the field during a game. In the first half of our state championship game this year, we had 50 different kids on the field. Coaches should know the kid doesn’t have to be your best player to be able to spell a guy for two or three plays during a game. Yet just getting on the field for two or three plays will make him feel like such an integral part of the team that he will give everything…” Coach Verbanic (more…)

Coach Moss also discusses giving back to the community. “Last year we had 115 girls, k-8 at our camp! We also hosted a Go Girl Go Day last summer where we had 110 girls playing softball, volleyball, jumping rope, climbing the rock wall, and bike riding. We are very active in the community, and I feel it is very important that these players spend time with the young girls who look up to them. ”
