Kevin McShane walked-on to the Oregon State University Beaver basketball team in 2008. In 2009-10 he was honorable mention academic all-PAC 10 and team captain. In 2010-11 he is a team captain, again, and has averaged eight minutes a game.

Jim Tracy has won eight girls cross country state championships, more than any other coach in California. He has also guided the boys to two state runner-up and five third place finishes.

If you’re willing to make your kids think about how hard they’ve worked, how much they’ve improved, then they will understand their potential for success.  Also, you need humor.  Have a good laugh.  Cross country isn’t a do or die sport but a do and succeed sport. (more…)

In 2009 Jarrod Polson rejected a basketball scholarship from Liberty University so he could walk-on to the University of Kentucky basketball team. In 2010 & 2011, UK Head Coach John Calipari gave him a scholarship.

Skylar McBee turned down other scholarship offers to walk-on to the University of Tennessee basketball team in 2009. He hit the three-point shot that secured a NCAA tournament victory against top-ranked Kansas.
